Pilates for Rehabilitation

Are you recovering from an Illness or Injury?

Injuries can be daunting and scary. Chronic illness can make everyday activities challenging. Our owner, Allison spent years as a physical therapist working in the hospital setting and has seen how injury and illness can effect your ability to move and enjoy life. She knows the lingo and is happy to coordinate with your physical therapist or medical care provider on the best route forward. We believe that Pilates is an excellent adjunct to any recovery process and we want to help you achieve your goals. We acknowledge that the recovery process is not linear while at the same time recognizing that our bodies and minds are built to adapt and thrive.

We recommend you start with private sessions during your recovery process and we require clearance from your medical or therapy provider prior to starting activity after a surgical procedure.

How Can Pilates Help You?

Pilates is a full body workout that strengthens some of the most important – but sometimes forgotten – muscle groups in your body. There are numerous ways you can utilize Pilates during your recovery or rehab, including:

  • Restoring Strength and Range of Motion: Pilates equipment utilizes spring tension to guide you into a position of stretch which is helpful to gain or maintain flexibility. The spring tension also provides resistance and load necessary to build muscular strength and endurance. Whole Living Pilates is a fully equipped Pilates studio which simply means we have a lot of options to challenge you as you progress. Our goal is for you to stay engaged and committed to your recovery process!
  • Increasing Body Awareness: Learning a new skill like Pilates or adapting to a change in your ability to function requires you to be aware of your surroundings. Just by paying attention, being curious, and noticing how you feel while moving will help to support your brain and neural pathways creating a stronger mind body connection.
  • Practical, Functional and FUN Fitness: One of the many benefits of Pilates is that it incorporates everyday movements patterns of squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling and supporting your own body weight. There are also novel movements that, while challenging, can incorporating a sense of play and fun into your workout.

Including Pilates in your rehabilitation plan is easy when you involve the team at Whole Living Pilates. Here at our studio, we strive to provide the most hands-on, personal, and effective Pilates experience in Colorado Springs. We recommend you start with Private Sessions or our Gentle Pilates Class during your recovery process.
